Snow Fun

P Day sliding down the hill with the awesome Trondheim missionaries.  A good snowstorm on March 28th!  It had literally been snowing every day for two weeks.  About a week after this all the snow and ice were gone.

New Friend Stanley

Dana's new friend.  She had been teaching with sister missionaries in the college student living area and found this guy.  End of March!

Stanley came to visit all the way from West Jordan, Utah!  He's Kenzie's good friend.  Stanley took a walk with us a few times and said he wanted to dip his foot in the famous Trondheim Fjord.

Stanley enjoyed walking in the snow to get to the fjord.  With no coat!  Kenzie forgot to send him a coat and we didn't have one that fit.

Remember that famous cathedral we had in a past post?  Well we didn't know the name of it so Stanley showed us.  What a guy.

 Four buildings, four different colors.  We love the creativity and style of buildings in Europe.

 This is our Tuesday District meeting.  We have the 8 of us in Trondheim, 2 elders in Alesund on the phone 4 hours away, and the elders in Tromso on the Skype wall, 500 miles away.  All in the same district!

This is our dryer.  Boy those towels are soft!  Not!  This is how most people dry their clothes.  It works, don't knock it.

Yes, Norway does it your way too.  This sign reminded us that there is a lot of English here.  In fact, we just learned from a recent survey that Norway has the best English speakers of all non-English speaking countries in the world. This doesn't surprise us at all, the people love to speak English and most are good at it.  We sometimes forget we're not in Seattle.  Speaking of surveys, Oslo has been named the most expensive city in the world and Norway has the world's most beautiful women.  The elders in this country won't argue with the results from this last survey.

 No, Elders Mathews and Carmichael didn't have a water fight.  They've been contacting people on the street on a very wet day.

We drove to Mo i Rana rather than taking the train.  A long, 6 1/2 hour, bumpy, trip on 2-lane curved roads, but a very beautiful one.  We drove so we could pick up an investigator in the town of Moujon, an hour and a half before Mo, and take him to church in Mo.

 Example of a northern Norway freeway, 2 lanes, often with no line in the center.  But what a beautiful place!

LDS Church Helping Hands

Elder Carmichael, one of our fearless zone leaders, the night before transferring way up north to the city of Tromso (Tromso has a Norwegian line going through the last O).

Elders Carr and DeCosta, our two comedians serving in the city of Tromso, way above the Arctic Circle on our Skype screen. Elder Carr helped train us in the mission office several months ago and finished his mission last week.  DeCosta is from Hawaii.  Elder Carmichael, another comedian, replaced Elder Carr.

Harald is our branch clerk and is a great help with all we do.  He attends and supports all or our young adult activities.  A wonderful guy.  Elder Mathews, another wonderful guy, is standing next to him.

Our branch cleaned a beach on the fjord by our house.  We had our "LDS Church Helping Hands" shirts on.  Trondheim's mayor attended (but didn't help) and we were on local tv the next day.  It was a lot of fun and the day was beautiful.

At the point of the Trondheim Fjord are several former Nazi bunkers.  Nazis had used this area as a port with plans to send ships (submarines?) to Russia and were hoping to also send them to the United States.
